Ways to Revitalize Carpet

Bright, clean carpet can lift a room without you even giving it credit. At its best, it’s a silent supporter. At its worst, however, it can be distracting. When your carpet starts to show its age, wear and tear, or just looks lifeless, it can be all you see when you walk in a room. So, what can be done? Here are a few ways that you can revive worn carpet.

Trim It

Sometimes when your carpet begins to look worn it’s because pets or heavy furniture have created snags. Whatever you do, resist the urge to tug on loose strands. Instead, take a pair of scissors and cut it back to the height of the rest of the carpet fibers. You may be surprised at what a difference just removing snagged carpet fibers can do.

Freshen It

Sometimes carpet can become dingy and/or musty. Baking soda can be a great solution to this. Baking soda is well known for being a powerful deodorizer. Sprinkle some on either a specific spot or the entire carpeted area to take advantage of its refreshing power. Allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes and then you can just vacuum it right up.

Lift It

Sometimes carpet appears lifeless because it gets flattened and matted with regular foot traffic. You can renew it to that fresh, fluffy state by combing it. Just using a clean hair comb or any tool with teeth, gently rake against the direction that the carpet fiber is laying. If you want to repeat this process regularly and make the chore easier on your back, you can purchase long handled carpet rakes from places like Amazon.
