If you are planning on moving out of an apartment, you know that getting your deposit back can be a bit of a struggle. One thing that can make that task even more difficult is pet damage. A common area where pets can cause damage is to carpet. If this is the situation you find yourself in, we have got your back! At Carpet Stretch and Rescue, we are experienced in getting carpet back into great condition and we want to share some of our tips with you.
Apartment dwelling with pets presents unique challenges. It can be difficult to arrange time during the workday to let your furry friend outside to use the restroom. Or sometimes pets get sick. Sometimes they track in dirt and mud from outside. Regardless, all these possible scenarios can result in pet accidents and stained carpet. Here is what to do about it.
Mix 50/50 ratio of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the stained area. Then taking a paper towel or rag, press into the carpet to soak up the cleaning mixture. Afterwards, sprinkle baking soda over the affected area to eliminate residual odors and absorb excess cleaning solution. Allow that to dry fully. After it has dried, you can reexamine the area. If the stain persists, you may need to repeat the process until it is satisfactory.
If your cat or dog has tried to dig a hole to China through your carpet, here’s what you can do.
The good news is that you do not have to have the entire carpet replaced. Instead, you can patch the damaged area alone. This can be a bit of a tricky job to tackle on your own, however. To complete a patch, you will need a donor piece. AKA, an identical piece of carpet that you can replace the damaged portion with. Homes typically will have spare carpet stored away somewhere from the original installation. But you will not find this in your apartment. Instead, you will need to measure the size of patch that you need and borrow a sound piece from an inconspicuous area of the home, such as from the back of a closet. If you are not confident in your ability to complete this job on your own, just call Carpet Stretch and Rescue. We can make sure that the patch looks as seamless as possible to your landlord. And we can do this without you having to break the bank. Save yourself some frustration and get your security deposit back by giving us a call today!
