Sharing a home with a pet can bring you lots of laughs and love. Unfortunately, situations may pop up that are less than desirable. Such as when your beloved fur baby has an accident on your carpet. No need to panic, however! Carpet Stretch and Rescue has seen this scenario time and again. We have the tested solutions that you can use to make sure those accidents disappear.
The longer you wait to clean up an accident, the tougher the stain will become. Of course, there are circumstances where you may not be able to get to it right away, like when you are away at work. But if you can, it is always best to attend to the mess as soon as you notice it.
Once you have removed the bulk of the mess, go in and try to get as much excess out of the carpet fibers as you can. Take a wet paper towel or baby wipe and just pinch and pull at the fibers until you have gotten as much fecal matter out as possible.
Mix two cups of water with one tablespoon each of non-bleach liquid soap and white vinegar. Test the solution on a small portion of your carpet just to make sure it will not discolor it. If you use bleach-free soap it should not cause any sort of discoloration, but it is always good practice to test things out before jumping in.
Next, apply the solution to the accident area. Do not scrub at the stain, but rather blot it until the liquid is completely absorbed. It may take several applications, but eventually you will see the stain lift and disappear.
Once you have soaked up all the solution out of your carpet, sprinkle baking soda over the spot. Allow this to sit for around 15 minutes to further neutralize any lingering odors. Follow up with vacuuming.
If it turns out that your pet has left a mark on your carpets that you are having trouble removing, give us a call at Carpet Stretch and Rescue!
